Ok, this is going to be a quick post: I have a new dress and it’s simply perfect. Amazing pattern and supersoft fabric.
What? You want to know more? Well, then let’s talk a bit more about the details.
My friend Catrin send me an email some time ago asking me whether I’d be interested in sewing a sample of one of the fabrics that she was going to release together with Albstoffe. Her online shop, Stoffbüro, is one of the best in Germany. She curates it with all her heart and chooses beautiful fabrics. And Albstoffe is a german company that produces only organic fabrics and IN GERMANY. No need to be think about horrible working situations in Bangladesh. These fabrics are actually produced in one of the most beautiful and wealthy areas of Germany. I have sewn with an Albstoffe jersey once before, when I sewed this Bethioua Kids (btw: Just some more days and the Bethioua Kids pattern will be available in english in my shop!) and I knew that the quality is amazing. I obviously didn’t hesitate to send Catrin a super quick “YES” as an answer.
All the fabrics in Catrins collection are basics that can be mixed and matches as all colors are exactly the same on the different substrates. Or do as I did and choose one gorgeous fabric and make a standalone piece! I chose the Jersey stripes marine/fuchsia , but also would love to work with the marine/petrol stripes, or the bordeaux and fuchsia solids. Or maybe the marine Flechtwerk Jacquard? Make sure to check her shop out. If you order for 80€, the shipping is only 4,90€. The shop is only in german, but Catrin can answer your questions in english, french and spanish!
Anyways, I sewed a Groove Dress by Made it Patterns. I have been eyeing that pattern since Olus presented it for the first time. Such a cool pattern, so many variations (sleeves, neckline, hem) and each and every version that I’ve seen so far is just cool. The pattern is modern and with simple lines, but the grooveability makes it special and unique. Jane (Buzzmill – yes, that’s the second time in one week that Jane inspired me – total Jane-Fangirl…) finally made me buy the adult version. Stripes always get me. And when Catrin offered me those perfect stripes, I just couldn’t say no. Groove Drees here I come.
I reduced the length of the hem in the back slightly, everything else is exactly as in the pattern. And I’m amazed. The fit is extraordinary. This dress sits so perfectly around the shoulders and bust and then gets wide under the bust for the perfect goove. I love it. And I’m glad that I even managed to match the stripes along the side seams. I never even saw this on RTW tees in the past (before I started to sew), now it gives me so much satisfaction when stripes match.
Overall this dress has quite a lot of stripes, making it quite laid back. However, with my fave scarf and shoes, it’s quickly dressed up a little bit and the perfect out and about dress. If you happen to come to my village this fall, it’s quite probable that you’ll see me grooving around :D
