Näh-Connection | Forest Floor Blog Tour (Bonnie Christine for AGF): Senna Tote

There are those people that you can’t help but admire. Since watching her Surface Pattern Lessons on CreativeLive, Bonnie Christine is one of them for me. Her charisma, the way that she aims for her goals, her designs, its all just wonderful. Therefore, when some time ago she called on instagram for bloggers for the blogtour for her Forest Floor Fabrics, I had to try my luck. And was more than happy when she chose me to participate!

I could choose some of the fabrics of the forest floor collection, which was incredibly difficult. It took me days to decide. A button-up for J? A dress for myself? The fabrics are super pretty and – charcteristic for Bonnie Christine – somehow soft and delicate. The collection is inspired by Bonnie’s walk through the forest around her house. On these walks she saw animals and plants. The collection includes such a variety of prints. In the end I chose to go with Clover Grove Whisper (#ihavethisthingwithmustard) and Timber Nightfall and to let them become a Senna Tote.

I don’t sew bags very often. And even though I sell the german verison of the Senna in my shop, due to time restrictions, I hadn’t sewn one before the release. I always wanted to sew one as I love the design, but never quite got around. This was now just the right timing. Over the summer I don’t release any new patterns inmy shop and that little bit of pressure that commiting to taking part in a blog tour adds, was just what I needed. What shall I say? I’m in love. Pattern and fabric are a perfect match. Clover Grove Whisper is one of those designs which are high in the list of fave fabric designs. The delicate flowers and the colors – perfection. I used a blueish grey denim from the fabric stash of my friend Miri.D for the bag bottom and the straps, which matched the grey in the fabric perfectly. They go just so well with each other! Plus the denim is sturdier than the quilting cotton, which is perfect for the bag bottom.

The nice metallic looking zippers are also from Miri. They can be found in the I’m sew happy shop in many different colors. For a bag like this, zippers like this are the icing on the cake, don’t you think. The bag lining is Timber Nightfall and for the inner pocket I used my fave solid color cotton: Michael Miller Cotton Couture in Gold. For a long time I used cheap solid color fabrics. Well, touch a nice one once and you never look back!

I tried something new to me for the interfacing: “Soft and Stable” . Such a cool interfacing. It’s just as its name: soft and stable. It’s not 100% perfect for the fold-over top of the Senna, but I’m sure it’s pretty much perfect for almost every other bag sewing project!

Although, I’m not too good in bag sewing I didn’t encounter any problems. The instruction is just perfect. Super detailed. Yes, it takes some time, but it’s absolutely worth it. I enjoyed seeing how all those pieces become a gorgeous bag. It’s really big. So even though it’s chicer than many of my other bags, it’s super useful. It easily fits all the stuff that a mom and blogger needs: Diapers, warmer jackets, napkins, bottles, money, phone, camera etc. I have used the bag already two times and it was just perfect. I’m sure I’ll use it for years to come!
