Today I want to show you some of my design examples for the new fabric collection On the Open Sea by Lila Lotta. I really love this fabric collection. A lot of blue and white plus maritime designs, that’s just my kind of thing. When I got the fabrics and finished sewing last fall, the warm summer days were gone and I had to take indoor shots. Well, at least we incorporated a cardboard boat for some sailing in our living room.
I decided to sew a Geheimling for J. This fun hoodie pattern by Allerleikind has lots of fun details and variations (btw. I hope to be able to release this pattern in english soon). Due to time restraints I decided to skip the welt pockets and to go with the normal kangaroo pocket, which also allowed some fun print mixing. I chose the Lifebelts jersey and some white/red stripes for the hood lining, pocket and arm patches.
Sewing this hoodie takes some time as several parts are bound with jersey bands. However, it’s totally worth it. These bands give it a unique and fun look. The hoodie quickly became a fave of my son and I can’t wait to see him running along the beach in Italy in this sweater in summer.
My daughter’s dress is a Kikky by Ki-ba-doo in the fun Wave and Fish design (also hoping to release this pattern in english this summer). Not that long ago my daughter totally refused to wear dresses. Well, not anymore. She wore a dress pretty much every day this winter and I’m sure it’s going to be the same in summer as long as they are comfy and in knit fabrics. Kikky even has one more advantage. The wide skirt moves beautifully. The tank top style is pretty cool and summer-y. Perfect for a lazy day at the beach with a lot of gelato. Kikky comes together quickly and is one of those patterns that you’ll sew again and again.
I also sewed a blouse for myself with one of the fabrics of the collection, but you’ll have to wait for some pics a little bit longer. And I’ll probably have some more examples this summer. There are several more fabrics from the collection in my stash, waiting to become something fun.
